radio from the vestiges of unceded territories

Ezra Pound called artists the “antennae” of our species, and Marshall McLuhan likened art to an early warning system, relaying threats of impending emergencies or upheavals. Radio has long served humanity in times of crisis, and the current global emergency is no exception.

Calling Planet Earth! Ligne d’alerte! uses site-specific radio interventions that convey emergency transmissions, while re-examining social and power relations between center and periphery. Four artists using sound, radio and transmission are invited to share their practices of collective listening, witnessing, solidarity and resistance in response to moments of crisis. Each harnesses radio as a material for carrying presence through space and time.

At this moment when communication and presence are being deeply reconfigured, technology becomes a tool not just of connection, but survival.
